Danzantes Unidos presents its annual gathering, Danzantes Unidos Festival (DUF) 2012 "Si El Mundo Se Va Acabar" on March 30, 31 & April 1 at Clovis West High School in Fresno, CA. This year's festival will take a look at the Maya "long count" calendar and serve to educate and quell various doomsday scenarios that abound.
DUF 2012 is a three-day celebration of Mexican Folk Dance with dance workshops & evening concerts. Curriculum will include movement sessions for all ages and skill levels and with repertoire from the states of: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Colima, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatan & Zacatecas with special workshops: Parent & Me Folklorico Fun, Folklorico 101 for Beginning Adults, Tecnica de Faldeo, Latin Rhythms & Bolivian Dance.
The Showcase Concert Series will present the work of performing companies from throughout the state of California. Rounding out the weekend activities are the DUF Mercado - folklorico marketplace - and the Pachanga y Fandango - evening social dance events.
In the tradition set forth by previous festivals in Los Angeles, Fresno, San Diego, Salinas, Hayward, Sacramento, Gardena, Whittier and San Jose, Danzantes Unidos Festival 2012 will once again celebrate the spirit and pride of our living Mexican culture. We look forward to seeing you at the largest gathering and celebration of Folklorico Dancers in the world!
Sinceramente,
Maria Luisa Colmenarez
President, Danzantes Unidos
