Maestro Spotlight – Miguel Ponce

Miguel Ponce 1Maestro Miguel Ponce began his career as a Folklorico dancer in junior high school in the city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico under the direction of Maestro Jesus Trevino Gallegos. He continued to dance in Grupo Folklorico Mextli in the City of Nuevo Laredo.

As a Folklorico maestro, he began his studies in the Academia de Danza Mizoc in the city of Mexico under the director Tizo Fuentes Yaco and the Maestra Mimi. He has participated in summer-long workshops at the Escuela del Ballet Folklorico de Mexico with renowned Director Amalia Hernández. His extensive participation in the Folklorico community continued at the Universidad de Colima under the direction of Maestro Rafael Zamarripa. He has also participated in the summer-long courses in the Escuela de Danza Mexicana with Professor Jaime Buentello Bazan. He is the current director of Grupo Folklorico Zapata in the City of Houston, Texas.

At DUF 2017

Hidalgo (ages 18+)

Maestro Miguel Ponce will teach Huapangos from La Huasteca Hidalguense: La Azucena, Alma Hidalguense & La Cecilia.  The following props are requested of students: Ladies – practice skirt & rebozo; Men – Norte style straw hat.

 

DUF 2017 “Alma Indigena” will take place on April 7, 8 & 9 in Fresno, CA.
