Folklorico Red Carpet – Maria Cerda
Danzantes Unidos DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” welcomes Maria Cerda teaching Folklorico Jr. High: Baja California, San Luis Potosi, & Sinaloa; Ages 10 & 11.
Lifelong Central Valley resident, Maestra Maria de Lourdes Cerda was born in Hanford, CA, and raised in Kettleman City, CA. She currently resides in Clovis, CA and is the director of Ballet Folklorico Sol del Valle, Sol del Valle Clovis, Aguilas de Oro de CWHS and Grupo Folklórico de Kastner Intermediate School. She received her training with Grupo Folklorico Anahuac at Fresno City Community College. In addition to teaching folklorico, she is also a Graphic Designer and a Substitute Teacher. Her goal is to soon be able to do some traveling out of the country. Maria enjoys crafting, hanging out with family and friends, and watching films with her husband. Danzantes Unidos is honored to have Maria Cerda serving on the DUF Production Team as the DUF Pachanga Coordinator.
I will be teaching, Baja California, Calabaceados – La Vieja. Students are encouraged to bring a norte hat. San Luis Potosi – La Petenera. Sinaloa – Popurrí Estampa Sinaloense. Girls will need a practice skirt, and boys may use a hat. Dances are created by me with dance steps I have learned from workshops I have attended. Giving credit for workshops to Maestro Juan Gil Martinez Tadeo and Maestro Nino Carrillo. — Maria Cerda
