Maestro Spotlight: Ignacio Delgado

Maestro Ignacio Delgado’s early dance training began in grade-school as part of an after-school program in Napa Valley. In high school, he trained in jazz, ballet, and hip-hop. There, he was awarded dancer of the year by the dance department. At 15, he joined Ballet Folklorico de Carlos Moreno in the Bay Area. Soon after, he joined Compañia Mexico Danza in Hayward. After relocating to Southern California for college, he continued his dance education with the dance department at UCLA specializing in West-African, Afro-Brazilian and ballet.

His lifelong dedication and discipline in Folklorico has made him a leader in the Folklorico community. He served as director of Grandeza Mexicana Dance Academy for three years and as Assistant Director of Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Co. under his mentor, Maestro Jose Vences. Early last year, he took the prestigious opportunity to dance with Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez. He has performed alongside well-known artists such as: Mariachi Sol de Mexico, Shaila Durcal, Ozomatli, Lila Downs and Luis Miguel.
