Folklorico Red Carpet – Maestro Jacob Fernandez

Danzantes Unidos DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” welcomes Jacob Fernandez teaching Folklorico High: Nayarit & Tabasco; Ages 13-17

Jacob Fernández is an active Folklórico artist and educator from the Sacramento and Yolo County area. He holds a B.A degree in in Spanish with a double minor in Education and Native American studies from UC Davis, and a Master of Arts in Spanish from Sacramento State University. He has also received his teaching diploma from the Instituto MIZOC from Mexico City with an emphasis in the basic education arts under the MIZOC method. Jacob has taught and collaborated for various groups within California such as Danzantes del Alma de UC Davis, Ballet Folklórico Nube de Oro, Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento and Los Mejicas de UC Santa Cruz. His most recent accomplishment was being a dancer for the world-renowned Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández in Mexico City, where he performed for 3 years in the resident company. Welcome back to California, Jacob!

Danzantes Unidos Festival (DUF) 2026: Tabasco & Costa Brava de Nayarit
Instructor: Jacob Fernández, M.A.
Level: Folklórico High, Intermediate/Advanced Level

This course will expand the student’s understanding of Tabasco’s fast-paced footwork and the vibrant skirt work/footwork technique of the Costa Brava of Nayarit. It will also introduce students to more complex and intricate movements that accompany of the musical styles of “El Zapateo Tabasqueño” (Tabasco) and the “banda” music of the Costa Brava of Nayarit.
