I will be teaching a set of Cuadrillas from the state of Durango. The Cuadrillas referred to “Las Alameñas” by Maestro/Investigador Profesor Juan Ernesto Jurado Osuna. These cuadrillas are representative of the Simon Bolivar and Santa Clara region of Durango. These dances were researched and rescued from being forgotten by the locals as new generations didn’t practice square dancing traditions from their parents or grandparents. Profesor Osuna tracked the music traditions back to the 20th century European dances practiced which evolved into the most recent version from 1970s when these dances were still popular and rapidly declined thereafter. This set of cuadrillas has 5 dances of various well known songs and require 8 couples to make all the formations. Overall the whole set is about 6 minutes. — Osvaldo Ramirez
