Danzantes Unidos DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” welcomes Elizabeth Contreras-Juarez teaching Folklorico High: Baja California Calabaceados & Colima for Teens ages 13+.

Maestra Elizabeth Contreras-Juarez is a folklórico educator, choreographer, and performing arts coordinator with over 20 years of experience in Traditional Danza Mexicana. She is the founder of Academia de Danza Mexicana de North County San Diego, dedicated to promoting, preserving, and teaching the customs and traditions of Mexico.
For the past 17 years Maestra Elizabeth has taught folklórico across San Diego County, working with a variety of students ranging from elementary school to high school, and adults to seniors. Her professional experience includes touring and performing in Mexico, as well as coordinating performances, community events, and cultural programs.
She is an active member of the Instituto de Investigación y Difusión de la Danza Mexicana, where she continues advanced training and certification in researched regional dances. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to cultural integrity, academic rigor, and meaningful student development through dance.
 
For DUF 2026 . . .
This course offers two distinct Mexican regional dance styles: the vibrant dances of Colima and the high energy vaquero style of Calabaceado from Baja California.The curriculum combines rhythmic movement with historical and cultural learning to foster students’ understanding and connection with the origins, function, and cultural meaning of each dance.
What to bring to class:
Calabaceado – sombrero vaquero and comfortable athletic shoes
Colima – zapatillas/botines and skirt

Danzantes Unidos Festival DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” will take place March 27, 28 & 29 in Fresno, CA.
Registration is OPEN at www.danzantes.org.  Early Registration ends on January 23, 2026.
