Danzantes Unidos DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” welcomes Irvind Garcia teaching Folklorico Jr. High: Colima, Jalisco, & Veracruz; Ages 12 & 13.
Irvind Garcia is an accomplished Folklórico dance instructor with 19 years of experience dancing and performing traditional Mexican Folklórico. He currently works at Maywood Academy High School as a full-time dance teacher, where he teaches both general education students and students with special needs, creating inclusive and supportive learning environments through dance. Throughout his career, Irvind has had the honor of performing alongside internationally renowned artists such as Mariachi Los Camperos, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Banda El Recodo, Los Tigres del Norte, and Luis Miguel. His extensive performance background and passion for cultural preservation shape his teaching approach, which emphasizes accessibility, cultural pride, discipline, and artistic excellence for all dancers.
This class will focus on repertorio from Jalisco, Colima, and Veracruz.
“The dances I will be teaching have been choreographed by myself but with a lot of inspiration from maestros Benjamin Hernandez and Rafael Valpuesta. During my class I will explain not just dance steps and sequences but the history of each state and why the moves differ from one another”. –Irvind Garcia
