Folklorico Red Carpet – Karina Estrella

Danzantes Unidos DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” welcomes Karina Estrella teaching Folklorico Juniors: Baja CA Norte, Campeche Sarao & Quintana Roo; ages 8 & 9.

Born in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, Maestra Karina Estrella was influenced by the richness of the Mexican Culture and its Danzas Folkloricas. At age 5, she joined La Casa De La Cultura de Ensenada. Her family later immigrated to the San Fernando Valley in California, where she joined Ballet Folklorico Ollin. At age 18, she began to utilize her dance experience and skills to promote bailes folclóricos as a volunteer at various schools throughout her community. In 2003, she founded Ballet Folklorico Las Estrellas in the San Fernando Valley. In April 2012, Karina founded and directed the group Ballet Folklorico Primaria Stagg. Karina has been teaching for over 22 years in universities, as well as,  public, private & charter schools. It has been her goal to promote Mexican Culture through the art of folklorico. She is currently teaching Folklorico in middles schools with the “All Stars” after school program.

For DUF 2026: Baja California, Campeche,Quintana Roo . . .

“In my class students will learn Calabaceados specifically from the state of Baja California. To be more exact La Mision in Ensenada where I was born. We will be learning all the lively and upbeat steps such jumps (reparos), kicks (patadas) and much more. Steps imitating various animals we can find in the Rancherias. We will introduce posture for male and female with Huapangos Norteños like “Brinquitos. (Dancers please come with tennis shoes).
From Campeche we will gain an understanding of the zapateados from Sarao and the use of the“paliacate” with “Campechanita Habanera”. This workshop will expand to Quintana Roo also with a vibrant song of the “Las Trigeñitas” .–Karina Estrella

Danzantes Unidos Festival DUF 2026 “Nurturing the Light” will take place March 27, 28 & 29 in Fresno, CA.
