Maestro Spotlight: Jose Vences
Jose Vences is an accomplished dancer, choreographer, and director with decades of experience in Mexican folk dance. He began his dance training at sixteen while studying at the Universidad Autonoma de Morelos. In 1985, he relocated to Mexico City to begin training at the distinguished Instituto National de Bellas Artes. In 1986 he was accepted into the touring company of the world-renowned Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez.
In 1990, Jose came to Los Angeles where he founded Ballet Folklorico del Pacifico. Desiring greater challenges, in 2003 Jose created LA’s premier Mexican folk ballet company, Grandeza Mexicana. Through his leadership, he has worked to preserve Mexican folk while also preparing future generations to be at the forefront of innovation in this art.
For Mr. Vences, each new accomplishment inspires him to new heights and to promote the continued advancement of Mexican dance.
At DUF 2016
Maestro Vences will be teaching dances from the State of Zacatecas. This is a class for Adults, ages 18+ at the intermediate and advanced level.
