Maestra Spotlight: Maria Valdovinos

Maestra Maria Valdovinos was fascinated with Folklorico dance ever since she saw a local group perform when she was in elementary school. Soon after, she joined the group and has been dancing ever since. Her passion to preserve our culture fuels her motivation to continue to learn about Mexican culture and to share it with a larger audience and in public spaces. Seeing her students perform is what brings her most joy, knowing they have learned and now embody part of their history and culture.

Ballet Folklorico Raices Mexicanas is the group that Maestra Maria founded. Beginning with seven students, the group now has over 60 integrants and two additional instructors.

Maestra Valdovinos was born in Los Angeles, CA. and raised in Stockton, CA.

At DUF 2016

Maestra Maria will be teaching Repertorio: Chiapas, Michoacan, and Nuevo Leon for ages 6-8 at a beginner or intermediate level.
