Maestra Spotlight – Yolanda Chacon Beniquez

1959600 1517131268544461 5095157581010519705 NYolanda Chacon Beniquez researched through Summer-long intensive courses at the Instituto de la Investigacion del Folklor y la Danza in Mexico, Artes y Ciencias in Tijuana, Mexico, and at Mazochoquim in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. These intensive Summer-long courses were comprised of instructors teaching at institutions across Mexico.

Maestra Beniquez has been teaching at Chula Vista Park and Recreation Centers since 1983. She has taught Folklorico curriculum courses at Palomar College, Eastlake and Olympian High Schools in Chula Vista. She was selected by Sweetwater Union High School District Board to direct the district-wide Folklorico concerts. Yolanda has also coordinated all Latin entertainment for San Diego Sea World, “Viva La Musica” for four years now. She has recently conducted research in Round Rock, Texas at the ACADEZ workshops.

At DUF 2017

Jr. High: Chiapas & Sinaloa (beg/int)

Maestra Yolanda Chacon Beniquez will be teaching Chiapas: La Tonalteca Mestiza and El Rascapetate ; Sinaloa Costa: El Parraleño, El Gallo and El Sinaloense.  Class instruction will focus on regional characteristics in footwork and movement . Bailarinas will need a *paliacate and rebozo; Bailarines will need a paliacate . *Paliacate=handkerchief

 

DUF 2017 “Alma Indigena” will take place on April 7, 8 & 9 in Fresno, CA.
