University Folklorico Summit UFS 2016: Leaders Today to Create Legacies Tomorrow

UFS 2016 will take place at San Jose State University on February 19-21 and is being hosted by Grupo Folklorico Luna y Sol de San Jose State.  Of course, nothing occurs in a vacuum and it is the leadership and diligence of the following students that will make this event a success.  Meet your hosts at San Jose State University!

Image1(2)Irma Guardado is the Director for this year’s University Folklórico Summit UFS 2016 “Leaders Today to Create Legacies Tomorrow”.  She is also the Co-Secretary for the host group, Grupo Folklórico Luna y Sol de San José State. Her hometown is Antioch, CA and she is majoring in Public Relations.  Irma has been dancing for two years with GFLS and she LOVES dancing Tamaulipas Huasteca.

Interesting Fact: Irma played the violin through elementary, middle and high school and hopes to one day join a Mariachi!

Screen Shot 2016 02 03 At 5.48.50 AMRafael Sario serves as the President of Grupo Folklórico Luna y Sol de San José State. He is originally from King City, CA. This is his third year dancing and his third year as an Aerospace Engineering major.

His favorite region . . . ¡Chihuahua!

Screen Shot 2016 02 03 At 5.47.24 AMSan Jose native, Jazmin Barba Iñiguez, is majoring in Computer Engineering.  She experienced four years of dance study as a child and this is her first semester with GLFS.  Her favorite dance is El Cascabel from Veracruz.

Interesting fact:

“At one point, total number of dogs being taken care of at my house got as high as nine, which is more than humans inhabiting the home.”

10482584 681795808556705 8390515131405242314 N(1)Edith Araceli Gutierrez is the GFLS Group Historian and UFS committee Social Chair.  She is a native of Turlock, CA and majoring in Behavioral Science with an emphasis on Anthropology and minoring in Dance and Spanish.  Throughout her six years of dance training, she has studied Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop & Folklorico.  This is her second year with GFLS and her favorite region is Jalisco.

Danzantes Unidos is very excited to be collaborating with this exciting trove of young leaders to produce UFS 2016 in Northern California.

Registration for UFS 2016 is open to all leaders of high-school, college and university folklorico groups throughout the nation.

The University Folklorico Summit (UFS), an initiative of Danzantes Unidos, is a three-day leadership and cultural arts conference designed for collegiate folklorico groups. UFS provides a forum for university folklorico group leaders to meet, share their best practices, and strategize for their communities.
