DUF 2023 “BAILAR ES VIVIR” MAESTRA MONIKA ANGELES

Danzantes Unidos Festival DUF 2023 “BAILAR ES VIVIR” will take place on March 31, April 1 & 2 in Fresno, CA and honors the ongoing work of folklorico artists sharing culture and traditions across the United States and in Mexico. Registration is OPEN at www.danzantes.org . Early Registration ends Tuesday, December 27, 2022.


 

Maestra Monika Angeles began her folklórico career 18 years ago as a dancer with Aztlán Academy de San Jose under the direction of Javier H. Salazar and later joining Grupo Folklórico Luna y Sol de San José State University under the direction of Itza Sanchez. Maestra Monika has taught for over 12 years throughout the bay area in various community and school programs. She has shared her talents with Raices de México de Palo Alto and is still actively instructing children and adults for Los Lupeños Academy de San Jose. Most recently she was invited to teach at Danzantes Unidos Festival (DUF) 2022. Maestra Monika has participated in various workshops including DUF, University Folklórico Summit, and various Mariachi Festivals to enhance her skills. Maestra Monika took on the role of GFLS Artistic Director in January 2021. 

As an undergraduate student at San José State University, she studied Child and Adolescent Development with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. She works as an elementary school teacher and will graduate Spring 2023 with her Masters in Teaching and Credential from Santa Clara University.​

DUF 2023 (ages 13+) – Folklorico High: Guerrero & Tamaulipas

Tamaulipas Huasteca – Students will learn the rhythmic patterns of huapangos and learn to connect their footwork with the instruments of the musicians, conducting harmonious sequences. Learned the region from Javier H. Salazar. Original choreography by me “Cuando Vayas a Tamaulipas”

Guerrero: Costa Chica – Learned the region from Javier H. Salazar. Original choreographies by me “Las Amarillas and La Iguana”.  Students will learn how regions have various styles within one state; Mountains of Tixtla, La Costa, and Tierra Caliente. Students will explore how animals and nature inspires dances to tell a story.

Sinaloa – Learned the region from Itza Sanchez. Original choreography by me “El Sinaloense” Students will strengthen basic skirt and footwork with fast paced arrangements.

 



 

DUF 2023 will take place on March 31, April 1 & 2 in Fresno, CA.

Regular Registration ends on December 27, 2022
